Kalahari Braaihout is a Proudly South African company based in Boschkop on the outskirts of Pretoria East. The founders of Kalahari Braaihout has always been in the fortunate position to use quality wood when having a braai with friends and family. At almost every braai the subject of quality braai wood was discussed and it was once again realized that quality, dry braai wood is an extremely rare commodity to the general public. It was therefor decided to share their resources to the South African braai community and the company was established to fulfill the needs of the ever growing South African "braaier's" market.
It is our mission to address the shortcoming of quality braai wood and save all our fellow "braaier's" from a market "flooded" with wet and poor quality wood from deforestation which is sold to the public as so called "braaihout".
Kameeldoring is a slow-growing tree and is very hardy to drought conditions which naturally prefers the deep sandy soils of the Kalahari region of South Africa. The wood has a reddish-brown colour and is extremely hard and dense. Kameeldoring is known to have the lowest moisture content of all known braai wood as the scourging African sun will bake it to less than 1% moisture. Kameeldoring wood creates large quantities of extremely hot coals. Other interesting facts about Kameeldoring wood is that it creates minimum smoke with a natural musky fragrance.
As South Africans we all have an obligation to nature and our environment to ensure a legacy is left behind for generations to come. Therefor only dead and fallen trees are collected from the bush to cut and pack to ensure your next quality braai.
